Joy Has Dawned - Lyrics

Joy has dawned upon the world,
Promised from creation—
God’s salvation now unfurled,
Hope for ev’ry nation.
Not with fanfares from above,
Not with scenes of glory,
But a humble gift of love—
Jesus born of Mary.

Sounds of wonder fill the sky
With the songs of angels
As the mighty Prince of Life
Shelters in a stable.
Hands that set each star in place,
Shaped the earth in darkness,
Cling now to a mother’s breast,
Vuln’rable and helpless.

Shepherds bow before the Lamb,
Gazing at the glory;
Gifts of men from distant lands
Prophesy the story.
Gold—a King is born today,
Incense—God is with us,
Myrrh—His death will make a way,
And by His blood He’ll win us.

Son of Adam, Son of heaven,
Given as a ransom;
Reconciling God and man,
Christ, our mighty champion!
What a Savior! What a Friend!
What a glorious myst’ry!
Once a babe in Bethlehem,
Now the Lord of hist’ry.

Jesus, Joy of the Highest Heaven - Lyrics

Jesus, joy of the highest heaven,
Born as a little baby
Under a wondrous star.
Like us, crying he takes His first breath
Held by His mother, helpless
Close to her beating heart.
Jesus, laid in a lowly manger,
Facing a world of dangers,
Come to turn me a stranger
Into a child of God.

Jesus, King of the highest heaven
Learning to take His first steps,
That He might bring us life.
Like us, knowing our smiles and sorrows,
He showed the way to follow,
A way that is true and right.
Jesus, take away every darkness,
Steady my simple footsteps
That I might in your goodness
Live as a child of God.

Joy to the World - Lyrics

Joy to the world the Lord is come

Let earth receive her King

Let every heart prepare Him room

And heaven and nature sing

And heaven and nature sing

And heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing

Joy to the world the Savior reigns

Let men their songs employ

While fields and floods

Rocks hills and plains

Repeat the sounding joy

Repeat the sounding joy

Repeat, repeat the sounding joy

No more let sins and sorrows grow

Nor thorns infest the ground

He comes to make His blessings flow

Far as the curse is found

Far as the curse is found

Far as, far as the curse is found

He rules the world with truth and grace

And makes the nations prove

The glories of His righteousness

And wonders of His love

And wonders of His love

And wonders, wonders of His love

Singing is for the whole family!

For all of us who take care of children, teaching songs that are rich in the truth and beauty of the Lord is a wonderful gift to help them unwrap.

In our family we try to teach our children a hymn a month; hymns old and new that have lyrics and melodies they can hold onto throughout their lives.

Here are a few pointers to get started:

  1. Play and sing yourself the songs you wish them to know in the places where life happens - over breakfast, car journeys, before bedtime.

  2. To practice a melody, sing it along to the vocal sound ‘gu gu gu’! It will be fun and get the voice warmed up and tune locked in.

  3. We take a little piece of a song lyric at a time and as our kids are still quite young, maybe going after one or two of the verses over the month

  4. Use the lyrics as a springboard to good conversations about the Lord, the Gospel, His Word

  5. Sing without music or simply along with your phone. We have found just before bedtime has worked the best!
